Deploying roadside screening devices

by | Mar 22, 2019 | Media Releases

Garden River – The Anishinabek Police Service will be deploying roadside screening devices to front line officers that can detect cannabis & other drugs.  Officers in the 3 regions are to begin training next month in the operation of the roadside screening devices.

Officers are continuing training in Standard Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Drug Recognition Expert (DRE).

The APS has a goal to have every officer on the frontline trained in SFST as well as in the use of the roadside devices.

The roadside devices will not be used to form the grounds for impaired driving but will assist officers in enforcing Highway Traffic Act charges as they relate to operating a vehicle while on drugs.

The Anishinabek Police Service in committed to keeping our community members safe through RIDE Programs & Traffic Enforcement.  If you spot an impaired driver in our communities please call the Provincial Communications Center at 1888-310-1122 or 911 in an emergent situation.
